The Matterport is a 3D camera mounted on a tripod. It is controlled with a mobile device; in our case, an iPad. When in use, the Matterport rotates 360 degrees on its axis, capturing images of the space in every direction, from top to bottom. The captured images are then processed to produce a 3D virtual presentation. The camera functions more like a laser scanner than a traditional camera.
From the 3D virtual presentation created with Matterport, you can extract high-resolution 2D and panoramic images from any point. You can also take surprisingly accurate measurements from the presentation, with measurement accuracy reaching up to 1%. This allows you to plan furniture, curtains, and even renovations based solely on the data measured from the presentation. The accuracy of the point cloud is of the same order and can be exported to CAD programs. We can also produce accurate floor plans from the virtual space.
SEIPIX uses both cameras for 3D imaging depending on the property.
In the virtual presentation, you move around by clicking with the mouse or tapping on a touchscreen, depending on the device you are using. You move by clicking or tapping on the circle on the floor or ground in the presentation.
Zooming works just like in any other program, by scrolling with the mouse wheel or pinching and spreading on a touchscreen.
If information has been added to the presentation using Mattertags, the tag will open automatically when you hover the cursor over it or click on the tag.
By pressing the play button in the bottom left corner, you can take a walkthrough tour of the property without having to do anything.
As mentioned earlier, information can be added to space presentations in various forms using Mattertags. Mattertags appear in the presentation as “dots” that open when you hover the cursor over them or click on them. You can write desired text in the Mattertag, link images, videos, or even music.
The color of the tag symbol can be changed, and its distance from the object can be adjusted. Mattertags are also utilized when adding extra features to the space using the MPEmbed add-on. In that case, the Mattertags are hidden. This way, they do not interfere with the virtual presentation but can be found in a list on the presentation’s TAGS tab.
